Physiotherapy

A physiotherapist focuses on coordination, movement, posture and the cardio respiratory system. The aim is to promote optimum musculoskeletal development and physical functioning.
Paediatric physiotherapists assess the child and develop a treatment programme which will include direct intervention, advice on handling, positioning and assistive technology as well as providing a programme for home, school and playtime.

Some of the conditions paediatric physiotherapists work with include:

  • Premature babies with dystonia
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Developmental delay
  • Respiratory problems such as cystic fibrosis or asthma
  • Spina bifida and neural tube effects
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Postural problems such as torticollis or idiopathic toe walkers
  • Neurological diseases
  • Burns and plastic surgery
  • Fractures and sports injuries
  • Brachial plexus lesions
  • Juvenile chronic arthritis and related conditions
