About us

Welcome to Aurore
Often when I meet new families in the course of my work, or tell new people when I meet them I’m an occupational therapist, they will often end up asking me “so what is it you do exactly?”
I used to think this was a very hard question to answer, and would begin to list the types of services we provide here, but I’ve realised that this does not really explain the real work we do in Aurore.

At Aurore we strive to serve children, and their families, by enabling them to learn. We believe that creating the right environment is an intrinsic and essential element that allows children to learn.

It does not matter if they need a boost to their language and communication capabilities, or want to improve their movement and motor skills, or are trying to develop greater social ease and confidence, or simply want to improve in academic and life skills, what matters to us is that they are learning.
The environment at Aurore is designed to be calming, peaceful, minimising stress and disruption for children. Our aim is to feel like a home away from home. Children with sensory processing issues often find it hard to learn and function in busy, overstimulating environments, so here we try to bring in as many calming, positive sensory triggers as possible.

Nature, animals, the freedom to move and a positive, “yes-saying” environment is proven to reduce sensory overload and anxiety in children and, as a consequence, enables learning.
Everyone who works here believes in this open and fluid approach to learning. Our view is that every moment presents an opportunity to learn. By being open to possibilities we can turn any moment into an opportunity to learn, both for children and for us.
Is your child behind in school? Does he/she experience any difficulties with Maths, Reading or Writing? At Aurore we offer a unique learning experience for your child. During our “play dates” we will create the most perfect learning environment for your child and together with optimised learning opportunities your child will learn and catch up with their classmates in a completely stress free, playful and natural way. Through movement, natural resources and good sensory triggers our complete unique and successful techniques your child will learn without even noticing.

Aurore started off as a one woman adventure. As a “therapist on wheels” Mareike travelled the South East doing home visits and training and educating parents and teachers. As the need for more services arose Aurore grew and grew and more disciplines were added. Aurore started to evolve into an ethos rather than different disciplines. Through our Kindergarten and Education Centre we have the possibilities to combine our knowledge and apply and holistic and unique approach the “Aurore Way”.
Helping all children to maximize their potential by providing educational, clinical and recreational services, in a safe and supportive environment that nurtures connections with their families, the community, animals and nature is the main goal in Aurore.
From the start, Aurore’s philosophy has been based on the belief that if children are given a chance to explore and discover their inherent strengths in a safe and structured nature-based environment, their self-esteem, compassion, coping and social skills will improve. The concept of an enriched treatment setting that brings people together with animals and plants in a mutually beneficial relationship lies at the foundation of the Aurore approach.
